Clerks as Teachers is a near-peer teaching program in Internal Medicine that focuses on fulfilling two main objectives: 1) to provide senior medical students who are transitioning into residency with opportunities to practice their skills as teachers; and 2) to aid junior medical students who are transitioning into clerkship to develop approaches to medical cases commonly encountered on the wards during core Internal Medicine rotations.

The Merit Review Process for 2019 has been completed. The purpose of the program is to provide evidence based recommendations to the Chair of the Department pertinent to continuing salary support for clinician-scientists. Calls for the 2020 Merit Review will go out to all clinician-scientists in December 2019.

At this year’s Division of General Internal Medicine Research Day on June 6, 2019, we’ll be presenting the inaugural Dr. Jack V. Tu Award for Research. This award, named for the late Dr. Jack V. Tu, will be presented to the winner of the best oral abstract at Research Day. Dr. Tu, a general internist by training, was an internationally recognized cardiovascular health services researcher, and a strong supporter of student research.
